Parghelia "In riva al Mare"

pizzuta rockParghelia or "Riva di mare", is known for the beautifull beaches as the unusual "cove" of Michelin 2 minute away from the rock of Pizzuta. Was a colony from Tropea Marine have settled in the territory to found this, destroyed by earthquake and rebuilt in classic mediterranian forms in 1926.

In the old town survive some ruins and the Sanctuary of Santa Maria di portosalvo.during the period of Mussolini was an inportant point of communication, this period is still witnessed by some of the paintings near the train station.

 


Parghelia now is a small town of 1100 inhabitants. Indulge in a leisurely stroll on the main course, there may be quite different market, have a pharmacy and two churches, the first of St. Andrew, patron saint of that town in his honor celebrates the 30th November with the launch of the characteristic chestnuts out of the church tower, while michelino pizzutathe Feast of Our Lady of Portosalvo is done the second Sunday of August with the traditional procession and organization of music and dancing for the evening.
To Parghelia is a lively and welcoming people, accustomed for years to live with foreign tourists therefore always open to show their culture and traditions.
